Taylor Woodrow Secures £800m Fawley Oil Refinery Expansion Contract
Taylor Woodrow has reportedly won the contract for the £800 million expansion of the Fawley oil refinery near Southampton, the UK’s largest oil refinery. The company was selected by ExxonMobil after edging out a rival consortium led by Costain.
The Fawley Strategy (FAST) project had faced delays but is now moving forward with plans to develop a new diesel plant, significantly increasing the refinery’s capacity. Once completed, the expansion will boost ultra-low sulphur diesel production by approximately 45%. The construction phase will generate up to 1,000 jobs at its peak, providing a major economic boost to the region.
The work will include the construction of a hydrotreater unit, designed to remove sulphur from diesel, alongside a hydrogen plant to support the process. This investment aligns with ExxonMobil’s strategy to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, reinforcing the Fawley refinery’s role in meeting the UK’s energy demands.
